THE 80th ACADEMY AWARDS 2008

Live february 24th 2008. The ceremony, at the Kodak Theater in Hollywood, marked the 80th anniversary of the Academy Awards. Organisers celebrated "Oscar's birthday" with film montages celebrating past winners and memorable Oscar moments - including the streaker who ran behind David Niven during 1974's ceremony. It was put together in just a matter of weeks after the writers' strike - which had threatened to force the cancellation of Hollywood's biggest night - was called off. That meant there were no large-scale song-and-dance numbers or lovingly-crafted movie spoofs from host Jon Stewart.

AUNTIE'S ALL-TIME GREATS

(BBC)

Auntie's All-Time Greats was a television programme broadcast in 1996 and honoured many long-time entertainers and artistes who had been associated with the BBC in its 60 year history. The show was hosted by Michael Parkinson and was made up of special guest appearances, clips from old programmes and highlighted the special input made by various stars as they were awarded with "Aunties" which were statuettes based upon the famous full-size statue that stands in the centre of Television Centre in London. This programme was notable for being the last television appearance of Ernie Wise who, together with Eric's wife Joan, collected an award for best double act; it also featured appearances from the Two Ronnies and was an evening of nostalgia to mark the corporation's milestone anniversary.
